The Gulfstream V Now Equipped with WiFi
Corporate Jets’ Gulfstream V was recently updated with wireless broadband that allows clients to connect their WiFi enabled devices while traveling anywhere in the world. The recent Internet access upgrade compliments the previously installed worldwide satellite phone and nationwide DirecTV.
For most of civil aviation’s history, those who traveled on private aircraft could not have effective connectivity with the rest of the world while in the air. Originally the choice was radio, then radio telephones, but both lacked privacy. In the last twenty years, clear and reliable digital phones became available, then clear and reliable Satellite phones, and recently, high speed Internet. As the technology has advanced, it has also become less costly. Now, with the ability to log on or call in, clients are able to conduct business as usual while on board. No more scheduling your flights around conference calls or delaying departures because you need to finish downloading an email attachment.
Recently, one of our clients realized an hour after take-off that a contract he planned on reviewing in flight had been left in the office. He was ecstatic to learn that he had WiFi access, enabling him to send and receive emails, and was able to download and view the agreement during his eight hour flight!
“Worldwide internet capability along with a satellite phone keeps our clients connected by creating a virtual office in the sky anywhere in the world” says Richard Hodkinson, CEO of Corporate Jets.
In addition to the increased productivity the WiFi provides the client on the ground or in the air, it also enhances safety for the pilots. They are now able to access real time weather charts, airspace notices, and other pertinent information, allowing them to make better informed decisions and anticipate issues several hours in advance. This is the first of our aircraft to have these capabilities. We will continue to increase the connectivity and entertainment options to our fleet over the coming year.
